Description
Austin-Hollins & Associates (AHA), in partnership with Environmental Litigation Group (ELG), is seeking experienced Senior Paralegals to support the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Western District of Texas. This position provides litigation and legal support services for matters involving the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Western Texas Border Fence Program.
The selected candidates will work closely with Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in support of federal litigation activities, including legal research, title reviews, witness interview support, document management, trial preparation, and courtroom assistance.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist AUSAs with witness interviews and prepare interview summaries and records.
- Review title commitments and prepare deed history summaries.
- Prepare legal documents including:
- Declarations of Taking Reports
- Amended Declarations of Taking Reports
- Complaints
- Notices
- Joint Motions to Close
- Motions to Suppress
- Summarize depositions, transcripts, and legal records.
- Maintain and organize case files and litigation materials.
- Manage exhibits and evidence for depositions and trial proceedings.
- Track, document, and report landowner complaints and responses.
- Support courtroom proceedings through exhibit preparation and document review.
- Conduct records research and analyze information from multiple data sources.
- Prepare charts, graphs, statistical summaries, and litigation support reports.
- Develop and maintain systems for tracking case files and legal documentation.
- Perform additional litigation support duties as assigned.
Education
One of the following is required:
- Associate Degree in:
- Paralegal Studies
- Legal Studies
- Criminal Justice
- Business Administration
- Finance
- English
- Journalism
- Related field
- High School Diploma/GED plus a Paralegal Certificate.
- Minimum three (3) years of professional legal support experience.
- Experience independently drafting correspondence, pleadings, motions, and proposed orders.
- Strong litigation support experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Ability to obtain required federal background investigation and security clearance.
- U.S. Citizenship required.

- Real estate law
- Eminent domain matters
- Land acquisition cases
- Mineral interests
- Oil and gas matters
- Prior experience supporting federal litigation or government legal offices.
- Monday through Friday
- 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Central Time
- Occasional overtime may be required with prior approval.
- Limited remote work may be permitted based on government approval.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Must successfully pass a federal background investigation.
- Must comply with Department of Justice security, confidentiality, and ethics requirements.
